Training & Accreditation:

Tent Technician (TT) Courses can only be applied for if the applicant holds a valid GECO qualification. These courses are aimed at experienced operators to provide greater knowledge and understanding of the following:

  • Equipment preparation
  • RAMS Documentation
  • Marking out / Structural Plans
  • Anchors / Counterweights
  • Installation & working efficiencies
  • Working / operating at height
  • Dismantling / Packing
  • Working with / building around 3rd party contractors
  • Basic structural and membrane engineering principles
  • General Knowledge on the specific Tentage relevant to that course

These courses are tailored to specific structures (chapters) to provide members with advanced training to pass their practical and written multiple-choice Tent Technician assessments.

Accreditation awarded by the Guild of TentMasters:

TentMaster (TM) is a formal title awarded to industry operatives by the Guild Council who can demonstrate their years of exceptional experience, practical or academic knowledge and leadership skills within their specialist field of tensile fabric structure. 

A life experience qualification is just what it sounds like: partially composed of credits earned through previous life and work experience. TentMasters and students hoping to obtain a life experience qualification typically have to prepare a detailed portfolio of their work experience which is then reviewed by the guild for credit potential. Sometimes competency tests, which examine a student's knowledge of product, transport, installation and other basic subjects, are also required.

Work credits may be awarded for on-the-job training and certification, documented skills within a particular field, volunteer experience, and more.

The Guild automatically awards the title of TenMaster to those who graduate with M.Eng. (HS-Anhalt, DE) Membrane Structures - Archineer ® M.St. (IMS Bauhaus) Fabric Architecture - TentMaster TM. (Guild of TentMasters).

All potential TentMaster (TM) candidates should be able to show in-depth experience and knowledge in:

  • Membrane Structure Project Planning & Client Management
  • Labour planning / Crew leadership on site
  • RAMS Documentation
  • Marking out / Structural Plans
  • On site equipment maintenance
  • Re-tensioning / Inclement weather procedures
  • Structural Drawings & Engineering Reports
  • BS EN 13782 – 2015 Temporary Structures. Tents. Safety
  • Installation sequences / Emergency procedures in bad weather
  • Structural and Anchor / Counterweight Inspections
  • Structural Design & Fabrication methodology
  • Basic structural and membrane engineering principles

Industry Experience Accreditation (IEA), allows exceptionally accomplished individuals to obtain the formal title of TentMaster based on demonstrating their years of knowledge, experience and prior qualifications without the need for the Tent Technician training.

A system of credits are allocated in various fields of knowledge, experience, references and qualifications.

A minimum of 70 credits is required to gain the qualification of TentMaster.
