The Guild Of Tentmasters was formed in 1992 to formalise the standing of the time honoured profession of Tentmaster.
In an increasingly complex and ‘high tech’ world, the professional Tentmaster performs a task carried out since the dawn of history. That of building and erecting tensile membrane structures and huge covered frameworks.
With the advent of new regulations, working practices, and types of equipment, there is a real need for a cohesive approach to raising standards and the acquisition of new knowledge. In addition to this, permanently installed fabric membranes are being used in ever greater quantities.
Why join the guild?
2005 saw the introduction of a European and British Standard for tents. EN BS 13782 – TC Temporary structure. Tents. Safety, updated to BS EN 13782:2015 – TC in 2015.
With an upcoming European standard for the Structural Design of Tensile Membrane Structures the requirement for professional standards recognition is ever more important.
The Guild’s aims are to help its members meet these changes as a forum for advice, knowledge, and education.
As a professional standards body the Guild presents the standards that industry professionals must uphold in order to raise safety, strengthen skills training, improve the levels of Tentmaster competence and to promote product and service quality.
The Guild is structured around four themes:
Prioritise people
Practise effectively
Preserve safety
Promote professionalism.
Further discounts and benefits to members regarding insurance premiums for personal and professional liability within the industry and suppliers are also yet to be introduced in 2025.
The Guild has close ties with and supports membrane structure trade and academic institutions across the UK, Europe and USA.
